key indigenous australian issues
| home | news lStolen: An Aboriginal tragedy8 October 2001 -What do you do when you meet your mother for the first time in 26 years? Shake her hand? Give her a hug? Will she feel like your mother? What does having a mother feel like? If there is one feeling a viewer will take away from this play its an understanding of the generations of indigenous Australians who were forcibly taken from the arms of their families. Stolen is an extraordinary and moving show in London for another triumphant season. A play that will move you and make you boil with rage. It reflects the experiences of Aboriginal children brutalised by Australias policy of enforced adoption which ran from 1910 to the mid 1970s. This is an absorbing production by Fifth Amendment. Written by Jane Harrison, Stolen is directed by Wesley Enoch. Showing from 20 November 1 December at the Tricycle Theatre, 269 Kilburn High Rd, NW6. Info: 0207 328 1000. Source:Black Britain News
