Arnhem land family on didgeridoo tour to Germany

26 April 2002 - Members of an Aboriginal family from east Arnhem land will take their culture to Germany in July.

An anthropologist who has helping the didgeridoo maker and player, Djalu Gurruwiwi, and his extended family, organise the tour says it is in response to the interest in Germany.

Guan Lim says the tour will involve a sharing of cultures through workshops, making and playing the didgeridoo or yirdaki.

"The idea is to bring a small group of the extended family to Germany and possibly elsewhere in Europe in July as part of a cultural awareness program or cross-culture program.

"The main idea there is to educate the German public about Aboriginal culture," Mr Lim said.
