Aboriginal Tent Embassy:The Hague Declaration 2001

August 2001 - The Aboriginal Tent Embassy would like to inform you that a delegation led by Isabell Coe , with 'the sacred fire for peace and justice', will be going to the Hague, the Netherlands, to establish a consulate on neutral diplomatic ground. The purpose is to lobby the Crown and the Queen of England on the issue that the Aboriginal people who belong to the land known as Australia, never ceded their sovereign rights to the land known as Australia.

The delegation will be leaving Australia on 23 August 2001 to go to the United Kingdom to lobby the Queen of England and the Crown before she leaves for Australia in September.

With the support of an international legal team, the Aboriginal Tent Embassy will be establishing an international outpost on neutral diplomatic ground in the Hague. The aim is to start court proceedings in the world court and the international courts of justice to have the crown and the British Government stand trial over the stealing of sovereign lands, genocide and the mistreatment of Aboriginal people, which still continues today.

Isabell Coe and the "sacred fire for peace and justice" will also be conducting a speaking tour of various universities and institutions in Europe and the UK on various topics such as:

    • Aboriginal sovereign land rights in Australia
    • Australian Government's obligation to honour United Nations Treaty on Genocide.
    • Reconciliation in Australia and the impact is has had on Aboriginal Australia
    • The treaty process in Australia
    • The British Government and the Crown's obligation to Aboriginal people in
      Australia
    • Human rights issues in Australia
    • The "sacred fire for peace and justice" and the history of the Aboriginal Tent
      Embassy.

The delegation will be also travelling to Ireland to find the whereabouts of the head of the rainbow warrior, Pemelwuy who fought the British for 14 years when the colony of Australia was set up in 1788. The Embassy believes that any true reconciliation can only begin after this gracious and humane act is carried out.

The Aboriginal Tent Embassy is currently in the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Australia, over the validity of the legal claim of sovereignty that the British Crown asserted over the land known as Australia, by Lieutenant Cook in 1770. The Aboriginal Tent Embassy has submitted a cross claim of ownership of Cockatoo Island in Sydney harbour and the continent known as Australia, by the decree that the Aboriginal people and nations of Australia never ceded their sovereign rights to the land known as Australia to the
    British Crown.

The Aboriginal Tent Embassy has already been to the highest courts in Australia and believes that truth, peace, justice and sovereignty can never be achieved here in the Australian Courts. The establishment of an Aboriginal Tent Embassy Consulate in the Hague would be to lobby the world courts to intervene in these paramount and sacred issues.

A five year campaign by the Aboriginal Tent Embassy in the Hague is anticipated with the overall view of building and maintaining an international platform so the issues that have to be overcome become evident to the people and governments of Australia, Britain and, just as importantly, the rest of the world.

The Aboriginal Tent Embassy will also be lighting the sacred fire for peace and justice at the United Nations office in Geneva, and will be attempting to sign the Kyoto protocol on the world environment , as the Australian Government has failed in its obligations to the people of Australia.
