"Unity will be fighting a strong campaign for Aboriginal rights at a time when Aboriginal people are finding it hard to get their voice heard," said Paul McLeod, Unity candidate for Gilmore on the NSW South Coast. "Unity will campaign for stronger native title laws, social justice for Aborigines in health, employment and education, and better funding for Aboriginal services. "We need to have Aboriginal people represented and heard at all levels of Government. The best way to do that is to run Aboriginal candidates at elections, and give our preferences to whichever major Party offers the best for Indigenous people. That way Governments will be forced to take notice of what Aboriginal people want. "We will win votes and send a clear message to the major parties that they must represent all Australians, including Aboriginal communities. "Unity Party candidates include people from many backgrounds, including Anglo, Aboriginal and migrant Australians," said Mr McLeod. Unity is confident of doing well after the NSW Auburn by-election, where its candidate and another anti-racism candidate polled a combined 17% of the vote. Their preferences will be vital in deciding many close seats and the Senate in NSW. Media release from Unity Party
