Ian Ward was being transferred after being arrested for drink driving on Australia Day. He later collapsed in the back of a security van. Despite attention from medical staff at Kalgoorlie Hospital, he died a short time later. Family and friends of Mr Ward travelled from across WA, South Australia and the Northern Territory to attend the traditional Aboriginal funeral service at the Warburton Community Church. Police Inspector Keith Galton-Fenzi said the service had been memorable. “It was a big turnout and an exceptional funeral” he said. “It went as well as could be expected given the circumstances.” Those close to Mr Ward have expressed their continued frustration with waiting to learn exactly how he died. A coronial inquiry will be conducted into his death, while autopsy results will not be released for at least another two months. by GARRETT MUNDY Source: The Western Australian
