Stolen Generations

More to come

Government policies up to the 1960s led to the forced removal of c 100,000 Indigenous children from their families – the ‘Stolen Generations’. They were raised ( often abused) in institutions or adopted by white families. A damning 1997 Report and public protests led to a 2008 apology by PM Kevin Rudd, but the Report’s Recommendations have not been implemented.

Sorry Day (26 May) remembers the Stolen Generations and tries to remedy the damage to individuals and communities.
